This Year Last year will be something to talk about ten years from now, provided that situations don’t escalate. Go back to last year, when the shocking news that we lost Kobe Bryant on a very overcast Sunday in late January. This was a shock to the world. This bothersome event lingered on throughout the Sports World and beyond. Early talks of the pandemic was just starting to get traction, and then March hit, where NBA games were canceled and then league play would be suspended until the summer. Baseball, Football camps were delayed. The way we used to buy tickets and go to a game was gone, as well as many sporting events that we like to attend were altered. Restaurant eating had grossly changed to the take-out mode. Traditional things that we took for granted was all of sudden null and void. Gyms were getting shut down. Musical Events were getting canceled, all of sudden orders were given to shut down some of the businesses that we frequent. Shutting down of Disneyland happened. We were all asked to quarantine for a while. Small businesses were shutting down, as a prevention against the virus spread. Baseball which traditionally starts at the end of March and in the beginning April got delayed until early summer. Football camps were shut down. Hockey which was closed to the playoff’s had to be delayed until the summer. This Year Last Year
Constant orders in certain state led to people not working and quarantining at home to prevent the spread. We are already approaching a year of this kind of living, and you can tell because people are suffering from, “Cabin Fever”. Yes people can go out, but the things that you could do prior to this, have been sorely curtailed. Remember when you could go to a movie, see a sporting event, go bowling, hit the gyms to stay in somewhat shape; or how about just plain going out to eat to celebrate life it self. Spiritual and religious gatherings were stopped in some cases. We truly found out that people are social, and that they have to live.
When it rains, it pours!
A funny thing happened on the way to the Capital. All types of social unrest was starting to build up during the summer. The Presidential Elections are in this year, and of course we have a President that was like no other. He catered to the small few, that turned out to be his die hard supporters. What a way to go. The country is in major turmoil, more so than ever. All political and social groups are showing up, where they never showed before. They say that there was a record turn out in voting, but also some election irregularities, which could be explained away normally because of the pandemic. All of this culminated in the out hand rally that took place at the Capitol Building in D.C. Can 2021 continue like 2020? Who knows? Their are a lot of problems that this country has to overcome and heal, before we ever see some semblance of life which we knew prior to 2020.
Where did so many unhappy people come from?
Did you ever wonder about some of the folks that came out of the woodwork when the pandemic hit? These folks have been here, but we didn’t hear a peep out of the collective until recently. We have been hiding from our history for many years. Now, exposure of a different type of thinking has manifested itself out loud. You wonder sometimes how these emotions were hidden for all of this time?
So it is now 2030 and you talk to the oncoming generation of age about the time the Covid-19 pandemic hit. How do you tell this story. Does the story go like this; “there was a time that everyone had to wear mask, no matter where they went”. There was a time when you could go to a smorgasbord, or eat all you want restaurant, and people use to frequent these a lot. Would you be able to explain why a majority of the population can now work at home, as opposed to when we had to get up and travel to a job. Yes, sure the traveling to a job will probably still exist, but not as much as it did pre pandemic. You would probably share with them the fact that we were pretty much locked down, and couldn’t go to a sporting event, or a concert for about 2 years. Telling such tales would probably bring a confused look to the listeners of these unlived tales. Maybe, the nation has changed due to this time, because of all of the reveal we witness during these times. One will never know, but it is something to ponder about for the future.
