The Life We Know – You go to a ball game and you are sitting about a few inches away from the seat next to you on either side. The seat behind you is only about a foot or more away, as well as the seat in front of you. You get up to get something to eat or drink, and depending where you sitting at; you will have to go by several folks at a close proximity. Then you get to the vendor where you want to purchase something to eat or drink and you are in a line in close proximity to others. Getting people back to this closeness will be damn near impossible considering the 6ft social distancing.  A vaccine in place  will probably be the only way people have confidence that they do not have to worry about this bug. How do you make that work?

You see people now running around with no face cover, touching everything they can get their hands on, not realizing that this virus is virtually all over the place. While more people are killed by the flu, this virus seems to overrun the hospital systems to the point that it affects other services that the hospitals provide as well as the equipment that is needed.  The Life We Know

The sad thing about this whole pandemic is that we don’t have enough test to test everyone, and even if we did, how would you know that you still won’t be infected by a person who didn’t get the test. You wouldn’t know either way.  Sounds imperative that in order to get this totally resolved a vaccine of some sort has to be administered so that people would have confidence that they are safe from getting this deadly virus. Another issue that it is not fully understood is all the major outbreaks from nursing homes. Why isn’t a strategy taken to address these nationwide. These were and are the hotspots.

Unfortunately you hear quotes that this vaccine that they are developing, probably will not be available for at least a year or two.  How long can you expect any sports to survive this? How about the gamblers who bet on sports? Not a whole lot to bet on. Sports and sports betting can’t survive like this. Sporting events bring in the fans and the fans ticket purchases fund TV, players and the teams and players brand influence which generate the dollars.

Entertainment at the movies; same scenario with the seating; how do you get back into business as usual?  Transportation such as air flights, bus travel, train travel, public transportation, how do you solve that scenario? The town of Las Vegas and other gambling tourist areas will have to do major changes to get back into the game. How do you open those hotels and casinos back up? This will be intriguing to see what life looks like when businesses open up.  Consider the fact that you can’t find things like masks to cover your face, although you could use a scarf or something to do this. Remember shopping in the malls? This will be an eerie  experience, but you have to figure that most of these businesses won’t be robust like they were prior to the quarantine as most shoppers will not have the funds to shop. It appears as though the essential businesses that are running have a head start on what safe looks like. Grocery stores with plexiglass protections; most eateries are doing business via the delivery services or pick up.

So with all that said people had taken for granted the idea to accept a person on their actions and merit, but now some civil liberties may be at stake. Civil liberties are affected as;  now you may have to have certification of some sort claiming that you are free from the virus. This can of worms is devastating to the already ruptured relationship that we have with each other now in America. Are you clear or suspect; that is the question? The only glowing aspect of this whole mess, is that we cut back on the carbon footprint for a while.

What did they do at the last major pandemic, the flu of 1918? This flu went around for over 3 years before it was conquered. Sure it affected business back then, but consider the way this affects businesses right now. Businesses right now are tied globally, as back then it was more tied into just America.  Back then it didn’t help that they had WW1 going on and folks were getting shuttle all around the world, but at a slower pace.

We all need to be safe, and continue to, hygiene up”, and respect other people’s distancing. Yes, we long for the closeness that we probably took for granted prior to the virus and going to the ball games and other social activities without worry of catching something that could kill you. There are some people that take the civil liberties a bit far, claiming that they want to go back to work and that it is not right for the government to dictate their rights. Seen a couple of protest on the tube, where folks were out protesting disregarding all aspects of safety; i.e. mask, social distancing.  When this virus came out, it potentially made us all,” assassins and potential assassins”, of each other, so thus the wise choice of keeping people off the streets for a little bit.

You could argue that leadership had a chance to get on top of this early so that we didn’t have to do some of the draconian methods of suppressing the virus. Sometimes it is necessary to take the rights of some people for the good of the whole. It’s only a temporary measure, but people can get it twisted so bad that they think this is the beginning of a trend. Believe me the way the country operates sometimes, I can see that reason, but for the good of not putting people in jeopardy against the invisible enemy, and not to overrun the hospital system in which it is doing, it was wise to curtail a lot of the social activity and work. Opinions are a dime a dozen, and sure; mine is probably in that dozen, but all the same, this is just food for thought. Like this or hate this stop by and register with lestalksports.com and give your opinion. To all please be safe. Look forward to the time when you can go out and check out the games, theatre, and who knows the airlines might open up the seating a little bit. The Life We Know in “Growing America”.
