Lebron omitted from Dr. J’s List    Lebron was scratched from Dr. J’s list of all time great teams. I looked at the list and it pretty much was individuals that had played prior and during Julius Erving’s career. Pretty much no one during the turn of the century. While I can see his reasoning. I still say that Lebron could still take a team of nobodies and get them to the finals, thus his record of getting to the finals 10 times during his 17 year career. This just lends to the fact that he has a big desire to win. Lebron omitted from Dr. J’s List

Yes he had the Miami Team and at that time, he took advantage of the more favorable Collective Bargaining rules, something that was a little less than favorable to ball players in the 80’s and the 90’s.  It was nothing back then to keep players together for awhile on a team. Of course the longer you keep these people together, they have a better chance of winning the championship. Move to the present; where cap space is important almost limits a team on what they could do to keep ball players.

Rules have changed since the early 2000’s which eliminated some of the rough play that the NBA had in place and the elevation of the 3pt game. The NBA initiated the 3pt shot shortly after the ABA had been disbanded. Even though it was initiated in the early 80’s, it was a tool that most coaches frowned at using back then. Don’t get me wrong. Lebron’s game is super strong and maybe we should look at the before and after when it comes to the best NBA 1st and 2nd teams.  Yes, a little bit much to put into play, but essential when you are talking about all time players.

The game continues to elevate.  7 foot players, like Embiid, and Nikola Jokic are hoisting the ball up 23 ft and beyond, and the coaches are not flinching. The physicality of the game has lessened since Dr. J’s years in the league. So with that being said, I can understand his point of view not including Lebron in his list of all time teams.

Yes there will always be controversy on who is the best, but during this era of ball, you would definitely want to put Lebron on the 1st and 2nd teams of all time. Lebron omitted from Dr. J’s List
