Some of the young talented guards in the NBA are just something else to watch! This Kid Luca Doncic is a phenomenal talent to watch! Dallas would probably be much better in the standings if they had had their big man Porzingis play more games. He has missed 18 games this season. Mr. Luca does keep a crowd ready and willing to watch. His knowledge of the game from his young European roots just amazes the league. Keep a watch on this kid, because if he ever gets a great line up behind him, he will even be more dangerous than what we see. One would still look back at the trade at draft time for Atlanta’s Trey Young, both teams getting great young guard talent.
In keeping up with college basketball prior to 2018, I seen this kid with the Oklahoma Sooners. Has uncanny control of the game, and just puts other players around him in scoring positions. When went pro, he started out slow, but towards the back half of the season, this kid started scoring big numbers, and was hitting 3’s like nobodies business. Since the pandemic has hit, he has tailed off, but still is a great guard. Changing of the coaching staff this year, may have affected play, for improvement. Look for this kid to get even better as time progresses.
De Aaron Fox- This kid is great. The mock draft that year, had the 76ers picking this guy up. Instead the Sixers ended up with Markell Fultz and the rest is history as you would know. Fox can slice up a defense in a heartbeat and appears to have no conscious with his offensive game. As a Sixers fan, I was looking forward to him joining that Sixers team in 2017, but that was not going to happen. While I blog about these young talented guards, I do not do in order, but my best one that I really like is Mr. Fox. He appears to be on his way to stardom and more, should a serious contender get him out of Sacramento, or either Sacramento picks up more talent to surround him. This year with the new format for playoff entry, Sacramento could get a shot, if they can up their game in the later half of the season.
Mr. Donavan Mitchell a talent drafted out of Louisville continues to dominate on the court with his volume scoring. The Denver Nuggets are okay, but they are probably shaking their head now as he was originally drafted by the Nuggets only to be traded for Tyler London and Trey Lyles. (Where are these guys) He has been instrumental this year in keeping his Utah Jazz team hovering over the Western Conference. Of all of the young guards, he is probably the best this year. Only time will tell this season with the Jazz on how far this team can go in the playoffs.
The 76ers big guard Ben Simmons. What can you say! A talented guard that shoots as a last resort. We have seen Simmons take games into his own hand during clutch time and be successful without scoring, but this seems to be the last piece of development that this young man must take to get him into the Magic Johnson zone. Simmons drives the lane and about 3 ft from the basket he kicks it out to a shooter. Some of those drives could be scores on his part. This would really elevate his game, as defensive will not know how to handle the drive. Philadelphia is in a dead fight with the New Jersey Nets for 1st place in the Eastern Conference. The season is closing in with a few games left to solidify that spot, and currently Simmons has been lethargic of late with his scoring, but excellent on defense. He may even get the Defensive player of the year, but until we see how Philadelphia responds in playoff’s i.e. get out of the 2nd round into the Conference final, will we be able to consider his talents much improved.
Devin Booker guard out of Kentucky now playing with the Phoenix Suns, has steadily increased his output each year. The game that comes to mind during his career is the game against the Boston Celtics where he hung a 70 piece in the TD Garden. A feat that had only been done 11 times since the league has been in existence. Right now he has Chris Paul as he running mate on the Suns, and as you can see the Suns have been jockeying for the 1st seed in the Western Conference. At 24 years of age, the sky is the limit for this talent. He has learned to score and not force it, as it had in the past. His game pretty much take what the defense gives you.
This is just a small sample of the young guards that are out there right now. Lestalksports would love to hear your comments and opinions. Look forward to expanding this list. Check out NBA.com for the latest news on your favorite NBA ball club. As for statistic click here!
