NFL 2019 Week 14

NFL 2019 Week 14 brought us some clubs clinching spots for the playoff’s. We all knew it; but the Ravens were a cinch to clinch. They beat the Buffalo Bills this past weekend in Buffalo 24-17. The Ravens still claim the number one spot in the AFC and need to continue winning in order to get the number one seed going into the playoffs. This means they will get a bye in the 1st round and then play 2 remaining rounds at home. We continue on and seen the Kansas City Chiefs also clinch by beating the New England Patriots in New England 23-16. Kansas City needs to continue their play and win the rest of their games without any help in order to obtain that number 2 spot as well as maybe even winning the number one spot. That will only happen if the Ravens drop one and by head to head competition the Chiefs would be number one as they beat the Ravens earlier in the season. The Pittsburg Steelers have been pretty hot and they are slotted for a wild card spot, but they still have to clinch that spot. The Steelers won against the Chargers 23-17 in City of Angels on Sunday.

Remember the Steelers; that were embarrassed on the 1st game of the week on a Sunday night, the team that struggled with Roethlisberger going out in that 1st game. Yes; Tomlinson was not going to let that team tank. Should the Steelers get to the playoff’s, the league should seriously consider Mike Tomlinson coach of the year. Steelers lost Le Veon Bell to the Jets, and Antonio Brown; (out the league), they have had QB issues, and they also had issues with the Wide Receiver spot; yet Tomlinson has this team contending. Unless the Ravens fall apart in that division the Steelers have a good chance of winning that division. Even the Buffalo Bills who is the other wide card holder for right now, even have a chance to overcome the Patriots, if they win out and the Patriot loose a couple of games more. The Patriots right now don’t have all cylinders clicking on the offensive side of the ball. We shall see what happens next week as the Bills will face the Steelers and the Patriots will face the Bengals. Anything can happen here. New England still has a shot at being number one in the AFC, they have to win out and Baltimore has to loose 2 games for this to happen.

Jerry Jones is probably still steaming hot that the Dallas Cowboys lost one to the Bears in Chicago 31-24 and the score really didn’t indicate the beating the Cowboys took. Cowboys tried rally back in the 4th but that was to no avail. The problem with the Cowboys is that they have not won a game against winning teams in the NFL this year. They also managed to loose one to the New York Jets, one of the lowly teams who help hold up the doormat in the league. Interesting thing about this is that they are still in 1st place in the NFC East; the only division that is playing under .500 ball.  Their nemesis the Philadelphia Eagles looked bad this past Monday night, but managed to pull one out in overtime against the New York Giants who had Eli Manning at the helm again. This game was played in the rain, and Philadelphia who has have problems fielding an offensive team on the field lost Alshon Jefferies, and Lane Johnson. They went into the locker room at half time with a 17-3 deficit. Something turned it around as they kept the Giants scoreless in the 2nd half and overtime. Philly had a kid come off the bench named Boston Scott in the second half who played a instrumental part in getting Philly back into the game. In overtime Wentz hit Ertz in the end zone for the winning touchdown. Between the Cowboys and the Eagles, seems as though no one wants to win the NFC East. Philly has not been able to keep a solid lineup throughout the season. Comment in some of the chat rooms on the internet have not been good to Carson Wentz as they continue to pine for Nick Foles, who is currently sitting on the bench in Jacksonville. The final score to this game was 23-17.  Philadelphia has a soft schedule for the rest of the year, but they must win out in order to take the division that no one wants to win. The Cowboys will face the Rams in Dallas next week; another winning team that is currently 8-6 and they are desperately in the hunt to get a wild card spot. The Rams took care of the Seattle Seahawks in good fashion 28-12.  Going into this game the Seahawks had the number one seed in the NFC, but after this one they dropped to the wildcard position. Considering that the Seahawks are favored against the Panthers next week, the Seahawks still have a slight shot that they can catch the 49ers who is now 11-2 thanks to that wild game that they played in New Orleans. I really expected to see the 49ers drop one here, but they seemed to be fearless on the road; sporting a 6-1 record and they eventually beat the Saints 48-46. The Chicago Bears who are desperate right now will meet up with the Green Bay Packers next week in Greenbay. The Packers have been winning but Aaron Rodgers has had ordinary games during the last two games they played. Just looking at the fantasy stats, the usually suspects like Rodgers, Russell, Brady, have had mediocre stats. This has been a interesting year in the NFL.  The expected and the unexpected continue to surprise.  Let’s see what happens next week; starting with the Ravens who match up with the Jets next week. They are already hinting that they should keep Lamar Jackson out due to a quad problem. The Ravens are playing great and still need to continue that trend. Should Lamar sit or play, you call it.
